Wissenschaftliche Schwerpunkte

• Suizidforschung: Untersuchung der biologischen, psychologischen und sozialen Ursachen suizidalen Verhaltens. Einfluss von Lithium auf Suizidalität
• Präventionsprogramme: Entwicklung und Evaluation von schulischen Präventionsprojekten wie "HEYLiFE".

Klinische Schwerpunkte

• Behandlung von affektiven Störungen: Spezialisierung auf die Therapie von Patienten mit Depressionen und bipolaren Störungen.
• Suizidprävention: Implementierung von Maßnahmen zur Reduktion von Suizidrisiken in klinischen Settings.
• Interdisziplinäre Zusammenarbeit: Koordination zwischen verschiedenen Fachdisziplinen (Neurologie, Gynäkologie, Onkologie u.a.) zur ganzheitlichen Betreuung suizidgefährdeter Patienten

Prof. Lewitzka engagiert sich zudem in der Entstigmatisierung psychischer Erkrankungen und der Förderung von Aufklärung und Prävention. Sie ist ehrenamtlich als Vorsitzende der Deutschen Gesellschaft für Suizidprävention (DGS), des Werner-Felber-Institutes für Suizidprävention und interdisziplinäre Forschung im Gesundheitswesen e. V. (WFI) sowie als Leiterin des Referates Suizidologie der DGPPN tätig.
